Glucagon is also known as glucagon or insulin resistance or insulin B. It is a hormone secreted along with insulin by islet alpha cells of the vertebrate pancreas. It works against insulin and acts to increase blood sugar.It is a single chain peptide (molecular weight about 3500) consisting of 29 amino acid residues starting from N-terminal histidine and ending from C-terminal threonine. It has no S-S bond in the molecule, which is completely different from insulin. The structure of the compound has been confirmed by recent chemical synthesis. The initial process of glucagon is specific binding to the receptor existing on the cell membrane of target cells to activate adenylate cyclase. Cyclic AMP becomes a second messenger to activate phosphorylase and promote glycogenolysis.

Glucagon Acetate is a drug whose main effect is to raise blood sugar levels in the event of insufficient insulin. It is a glucagon-like peptide that stimulates the liver to release glycogen stored in the liver, converting it to glucose and releasing it into the bloodstream, thereby raising blood sugar levels. Glucagon Acetate could also promote the decomposition of fatty acids, thus increasing the level of plasma free fatty acids. Glucagon Acetate can also be used as an emergency treatment for acute hypoglycemia and to raise blood sugar levels in cases of hypoglycemia caused by insulin overdose.
